Looking for a quiet place to savour local food on the island? Well look no further! La Belle Creole is a nice restaurant offering an amazing sea view.
A little gem situated in Mahébourg which offers traditional local cuisine. Simple, charming and authentic are the words that comes to mind when you enter the restaurant. La Belle Creole is actually the perfect summer spot to relish on a delicious lunch with the mesmerizing view of the south.
The restaurant features little cabanas for those seeking a more intimate gourmet experience. We opted for a more local style seating, right on the family bench under the umbrella. Yup that was the sweet spot as we had the ocean breeze, a magnificent view and the natural shadow on the palm trees.
This restaurant offers a peaceful atmosphere. You could only hear the birds tweeting in the trees (my favourite kind of tweet!) and the locals having fun in the water. The simplicity of the location was reinvigorating.
As we went through the menu we were offered some local chili cakes as starters (or as we heartily call in Mauritius: gateaux piments). I never had chili cakes as starters in a restaurant, but my oh my it is always delicious. Note to self: wherever the place, whenever the time, gateaux piments is always good!
As the mood started to set in for ‘ene bon manzer moricien’ (good mauritian food) we ordered a beautiful selection of local dishes. On the table we had ‘rougaille saucisse créole’, chicken & prawn curry, grilled fish, eggplant & boucané curry and seafood spaghetti. What a feast!
