Hello lovely readers! I am happy to share with you a new post featuring a Creative Ladypreneur! Noora is the talented artist behind the brand Sekoia. Discovering local crafters is becoming more and more exciting!
I had a glance of her products before our collaboration and was amazed by the simplicity and attention to detail that they had. From handmade tassels, boho earrings, even chic and casual bracelets, her items have a certain ‘Je ne sais quoi’ that keeps you wanting more!
What can be more surprising about Noora? She just finished high school! This gorgeous girl is 18 and she already has her sweet business running smoothly. How can you not fall in love with this inspiring story! She is the definition of courage and achievement, by her own rules.
1. Sekoia is a unique name, how did you came up with this word for your brand?
I chose this name because I love the Sequoia tree (and I would love to actually see one, one day) and I like the idea that they are individual trees but still form part of a ‘tribe’. I also like how the word sounds but I altered the word using a ‘K’, like the words written in Kréole.
2. How would you describe your style?
I would say Tropical Bohemian.
3. What is your favorite item in your collection?
I love doing the Brazilian bracelets and I love to see the pattern unfold, knot by knot.
4. Where can we find your products?
Well for now its at my place :p but I deliver in Rose Hill, Ebene, Quatre Bornes or by the post.
5. What inspired you and motivated you to create your small business?
I used to do those bracelets with my sister and we use to say: “Hey! We could start a business with this!” But it felt like a joke. But I was still doing them, here and there to give to friends. I decided to start my facebook page after my HSC exams were over. I had a lot of time to kill and had the urge to do something productive of my days. My family and friends was very supportive and this motivated me even more to continue.
6. Your advice to women out there who wishes to become an entrepreneur in Mauritius
My advice would be to: Go for it ! There are highs and lows of course, but if you’re doing something you love with passion and honesty, I guess it should work out 🙂 And don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.
7. Describe your average designer day
After breakfast I start working on my orders (if I dont have to do a delivery :p). I don’t have a fix time to do my orders but I like working at night. When I don’t have any orders, i just sit at my table and play with the materials and try new stuffs. Youtube helps a lot but we don’t necessarily have the materials here.
8. If you could define yourself in 1 word, what would it be?
It’s two words :p : Free-spirited
